I love TED Talks. An amazing things happen when you put smart people in a room together and let them share ideas. Those ideas create conversations, which leads to action and progress towards a better world. On March 7th, I will be in Vancouver to attend a similar event called FEAT ("Fascinating Expedition & Adventure Talks"). However, this event is narrowly focused on sharing stories from adventurers and inspiring others to embark on expeditions themselves. From their site:
Originally created by adventure racer and writer Lisa de Speville, FEAT brought South Africa’s adventurers together. “Most people would love to embark on an expedition; but most are tied to ‘real life’ so they settle for feeding this desire with organized sporting events,” she says.
“It takes a different, special kind of courage and drive to abandon socially accepted norms (day job, family, home) to set off – often solo – on self-motivated and self-organized expeditions. Whether the adventure involves oceans, countries, continents, rivers or mountains, these achievements are extraordinary. I’ve yet to meet a person who is not captivated by tales of adventure.” Through these Talks, FEAT aims to publicize the achievements of adventurers and be inspired by their feats.
While attending these events in South Africa is a bit of a stretch for my budget, Vancouver feels like right my back yard. I cannot tell you how truly excited I am to attend this event and more closely connect and share ideas with my Tribe in person! I already have a laundry list of adventures and expeditions I want to pursue now, and I can only imagine what my wife will have to listen to after I return home. ;)
I will be flying into Seattle earlier in the week to spend a few days there before heading up the coastline to Vancouver. I've already started making some great connections that I very much look forward to meeting with in person. If you happen to be in the region that week, be sure to connect with me and I would love to touch base with you while I'm there.
Otherwise, speaking of TED Talks, I will also be attending the TEDx event in my own city of Nashville on March 22nd, and would love to share ideas with you there as well!
